Lead by songwriters Michael Brennan and Matthew Cromarty (both formerly with critically-acclaimed band mellonova), Beneath Augusta work with a melodic sensibility that eschews “being progressive for the sake of being progressive,” concentrating instead on writing more direct, streamlined songs. The result is music that mitigates its more obvious pop roots with unconventional chord voicings and rhythms, creating a new sound that is continually evolving as the band progresses.
